Problem:
As items have been added to Business Central, images have been uploaded. Many items have been improved or their appearance changed over the years and the images need to be replaced. Some items just never had images. Is there a process for adding many images at once? Can this process include images to be replaced as well as new images?
Solution:
Import Item Pictures in Business Central allows for importing images initially as well as updating existing images. Regardless of new or replacement, the images need to saved using the Item No. as the file name. All images then need to be saved to a zipped file. The zipped file will be used in the import.
Go to Import Item Picture, select the ZIP file and enable Replace Pictures to import new images and update existing images at the same time. The Replace Pictures option, when disabled, is a great way to confirm that only new images are added, nothing is being overridden or updated. To keep adding new images and updating existing images as separate processes create 2 zip files for importing – One with new images to import with Replace Pictures disabled, and another with images to be replaced with Replace Pictures enabled.
The following is an example of a compressed file containing new image and some updates (replacements). Note the count for additions vs. replacements.
